Alaska Farm Bureau has four advisory programs to ensure that all kinds of farms are represented throughout the state of Alaska. These programs are opportunities for members to discuss and recommend solutions in pursuit of policy implementation.

    • Have a voice — help shape AKFB’s policy recommendations and conference topics.
    • Grow as a leader — host a tour, teach a short lesson, or serve as an officer.

    Who it’s for
    • Cut-flower and peony growers (field/tunnel/greenhouse)
    • Bedding/ornamental greenhouse producers
    • Floral designers/wholesalers/shippers (stakeholders welcome)
    Cost: $0 — FAC is an AKFB member program (no extra dues).

    How FAC works
    • Officers (1-year): Chair • Vice/Chair-Elect • Secretary/Treasurer
    • Meetings (Quarterly):
    – Q1 (Online): policy focus (property tax exemption, air cargo reliability, freight
    programs, packaging/label standards)
    – Q2 (In-person): on-farm/pack-house meetup (postharvest clinic + buyer/designer
    roundtable)
    – Q3 (Online): training webinar (cut-stage & hydration; cold-chain workflow; box specs &
    QA; pricing & channels)
    – Q4 (In-person @ AK Ag Conference): annual meeting, officer elections, next-year

    What you’ll do (examples)
    • Tours & meetups: pack-house walkthroughs, postharvest handling demos, cold-chain
    tools & temp logging, box building & QA.
    • Skill clinics: cut stage & hydration, standard box specs, QA checklists, pricing bundles,
    channels & contracts, branding basics.
    • Peer solves: a 15-minute round-robin—everyone shares one win and one roadblock;
    we crowdsource fixes.
    • Conference input: nominate sessions/speakers for the annual AK Ag Conference.

    Pathways to grow (if you want more)
    • Host a meetup or teach a 10-minute lightning lesson.
    • Serve as an officer (Chair, Vice/Chair-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer).
    • Collaborate with Produce/Livestock/Apiculture & YF&R on shared topics.
    Time commitment
    • Quarterly meetings (60–90 minutes) + an optional Q2 field/pack-house day.
