The UAF Cooperative Extension Service received a grant that would fund four part-time “pest scouts” in the Kenai, Palmer, Fairbanks and Delta Junction areas. They will be tasked with the goal of visiting farms/ranches in Alaska over the next three summers scouting fields, pastures and animals for pests. They will be teaching owners how to do this as well.
To prepare the scouts, CES is asking anyone who grows crops, raises animals, or is in an agency who works with farmers/ranchers to take a statewide survey. The results will let them know what your main pest concerns are; weeds, diseases, or insects in your area.
The survey can be found here.
