Every day is a good day to celebrate agriculture, but here in Alaska we have a legislatively designated special day the first Tuesday of May of each year.
Nationally, Agriculture Week is the week in which the first day of spring occurs, and National Agriculture Day coincides with Spring Equinox.
Celebrate Alaska Agriculture Day 2010 with a guest reader. Contact Alaska AITC for details, 982-2219.
NEW: Like trivia? Alaska AITC's Farm to Table Ag Trivia is a deck of more than 1,000 questions related to agriculture. It's designed for upper elementary through high school, and free to Alaska's classroom teachers. Email to find out how you can get decks for your school. Alaska Agriculture Day 2009 featured the third annual "Read for Agricultural Literacy" project. Special readers visited classrooms and read "Farming" by Ann Love or other books on agriculture. Some schools had special all-day agricultural celebrations. More than 60 classrooms of students participated in Alaska Ag Day events around the state.
Alaska Agriculture Day 2008's special project was the compilation and presentation of several "Learning Barns" at Alaska schools, funded by the American Farm Bureau Foundation, Alaska Division of Agriculture, Alaska Farm Bureau and donations from local businesses and organizations.

Alaska Agriculture has many aspects, from traditional production agriculture like dairy, beef, barley, potatoes and hay, to horticulture, diversified livestock, organic vegetables, specialty crops, farm woodlots, birch syrup and a host of small-acreage crops and limited livestock operations across the state.
The Alaska Ag Day poster designed by Annalise Theisen of Kenai reflects this remarkable diversity. Order a copy of the 17-by-22-inch poster or download a letter-size copy to print (652KB). Check out the links on the Links page for more information on Alaska agriculture.
